The Challenge: The Queensland Government was embarking on a challenging program of work and staffed their senior Program Management team with senior government managers. This created excellent industry knowledge and relationship management though not high levels of Program and Project Management expertise.
The Solution: Information Professionals provided assistance to Senior Program Managers to provide specific Program and Project Management expertise in the areas of scheduling, risk management, organisational structuring and organisation change impacts.
The Outcome: As this role evolved, it moved from a management support role into a trusted advisory role. Information Professionals provided mentoring, support and knowledge transfer to Senior Managers who delivered reliable results despite the challenges of the program. The Information Professionals consultants provided back-up (in some cases as 2IC, filling in during leave and other situations where short-term absences were required). This significantly reduced the risk for the Managers (and for Queensland Government) and created a learning, knowledge transfer and back-up capability that could be accessed as required.
